A work in progress

Hello and welcome to my blog, Malinsfood! As you may have guessed my name is Bond, James Bond… Well, maybe not but I hope to become as good of a blogger as James is at seducing women, which, if you know your Bond movies is not easily accomplished. Anyway, a big welcome and I hope that you will find this blog helpful and inspiring.

So this is my first post on this page and, in fact, on any page since this is my first attempt to start blogging. This blog was created to show my passion for food and drinks and to help others create delicious food as well. So the first recipe I made for this page was one that’s inspired by a resent trip to Amsterdam were me and my boyfriend had some delicious burritos at a place called Salsa Shop. They had this hot and sweet sauce with pineapple which was really really good, so I decided when we got back home that I would try to make something similar. In this recipe I ended up using peaches instead of pineapple but the result was still amazing and it was so easy to make. You could definitely use pineapple for this recipe as well and if you want to add some more smokiness to it you can grill your fruit before adding it to the saucepan. Enjoy and thank you for stopping by!

Peeled peaches for the hot and sweet sauce

Recipe for the sauce:

  • 200 g of fresh peaches, peeled and de-seeded
  • 1/2 tsp smoked salt (or just regular salt depending on what you have in your kitchen)
  • 2 tbsp of sriracha/your chili sauce of choice
  • 1/2 tbsp of honey (to make it vegan just substitute the honey for golden syrup)

To make the sauce:

Add all the ingredients to a small saucepan and cook until the peaches are dissolved, approximately 5 min and then mix it until it’s smooth. Enjoy!

I served this sauce in a burrito with minced chicken (which I flavored with some of the hot sauce), pickled carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, mexican beans, creamed corn, rice and sour cream and then topped it with some chopped cilantro, toasted black sesame seeds and, of course, my hot sauce! This batch is enough for four people but if you want more you can just double or triple the recipe. This sauce will be a staple on all my barbecues this summer since I figure that it will work with any kind of meat or grilled vegetables! I really hope you enjoy it and let me know if you try it out!

Assembling the burrito…
The finished burrito! Of course I overfilled it so I couldn’t actually wrap it up as a proper burrito…
But it was so good!
