A tropical take on an Americano

Hello again and welcome to my blog! I’m slowly starting to get a hang on writing and posting here but it has taken me some time and effort. I’ve been really busy these last couple of weeks, both with work and visiting family, but now I’m having a little bit more time at home which hopefully will mean more blog posts. I really love creating new stuff and I get inspiration from so many different places. This recipe is inspired by my trip to Sardinia about 4 years ago. I found some pictures from our trip when I was looking through some old photos on facebook and somehow, in almost all of them, I am having a drink in my hand and nine times out of ten my favored drink was an Americano. I love the balance between bitter and sweet, but this time I wanted to add some sourness to it as well. So I went to my local store hoping for some inspiration. There I found some containers with passion fruit juice and I thought “hey, this might work!”. So I bought some containers and brought them home to experiment and wow! This tropical take on an Americano is now one of my favorite drinks ever! ‘

We had our drinks out on the balcony which was lovely. It almost felt like being back in Italy!

Recipe:

  • 1 oz (30 ml) Campari
  • 3/4 oz (22,5 ml) of Sweet vermouth (I used Martini Rosso)
  • 3 oz (90 ml) of passion fruit juice
  • 2 drops of angostura bitter (or homemade tropical bitter, recipe for this is coming up)
  • A teaspoon strawberry pure (optional, but very tasty)
  • Garnish with some passion fruit peel if you feel like impressing, otherwise don’t bother!

Add all the ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake until the outside of the shaker is frosty and cold. Strain through a sieve into a classic old fashioned glass and add some type of garnish if you feel like it. This drink is not that strong but that just means you can drink more of it!

Down the hatch!

I really hope you enjoy this drink as much as I do.

Cheers!
